Comments Off

Dear colleagues,

a second Research Meeting on ongoing research related to Pediatric
Neurology will be held in Lyon (EPNS meeting, 2010) organized by Alexis
Arzimanoglou.

I am pleased to inform you that Helen Cross offers the working groups the
chance to meet before at the EPNS meeting in Harrington (September 29th
-October 2nd 2009). The goal of this meeting is to continue discussion on
research work in progress within the field of Paediatric Neurology.

As the group leader of the working group Neonatal Neurology,
Neurodegeneration and Neuroprotection I would like to invite you and your
colleagues who are interested participating and presenting ongoing work.
The special aim of the working group is to promote scientific
collaboration, to encourage young scientists to discuss projects, and to
provide a forum of new collaborative projects of clinical and basic
scientists within Europe. Please contact regina.trollmann@uk-erlangen.de
.

In order to plan an interactive session, I would like to ask all
colleagues who consider participating for the following information:

1. Do you want to present a project?
2. Please provide the title and a brief summary (background, hypothesis,
methods, results and conclusions)
3. Are you interested in collaboration (topic/methods)?
4. If you would not like to present a project, please provide some
information on your field of interest.

Best regards

Regina Trollmann

Place: Athens, Greece

» Program v PDF obliki

Objectives

This seminar will deal with basic mechanisms of brain injury and brain plasticity after such injury in preterm and term neonates. The early consequences will be presented in detail, especially regarding the neonatal convulsions and risk to develop future postneonatal epilepsy. The long term outcome will be presented with special concern on quality of life in survivors of neonatal intensive care and function in adulthood. Different ethical issues will also be presented, especially regarding withholding and withdrawing treatment as well as the question how far we still can go with preterm labour.
